Founded in the 12<sup>th<\/sup> century, the Hospital of St Cross still provides accommodation for 25 gentlemen, aged over sixty, known as Brothers, and is amongst the oldest charitable foundations in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The church at St Cross provides a private chapel for the Brothers, and is within the public parish of \u2018St Faiths\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/parishofstfaith.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">http:\/\/parishofstfaith.org\/<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nfahc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/P1040622-Copy-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Brother John during the guided tour\" class=\"wp-image-745\" width=\"242\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nfahc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/P1040622-Copy-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.nfahc.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/P1040622-Copy-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><figcaption>Brother John during the guided tour<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We parked within the church\nquadrangle which gave a magnificent backdrop to the 21 car display. Coffee was\ntaken in the \u2018Hundred Man Hall\u2019 tea room, after which we split into two groups\nfor our conducted 1\u00bc hr tours of the grounds and ancient buildings, which were\nprovided by Brother John and Cathy from the Porters Lodge, which were most\ninteresting and entertaining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grounds include a walled\narea with a carp pond with superb borders of flowers, and lawns. The\ntranquillity of the place was astounding as it is very close to the M3 and busy\nfeeder road to Winchester\ncity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lunch was booked at the \u2018Bell\nInn\u2019 which was a 5 min walk, whilst the cars were left safely in the quadrangle\nby the church.
